Family homes between the dam and the botanical garden.

Emmarentia is green in a literal sense. The Emmarentia Dam and the Johannesburg Botanical Garden sit inside the suburb, and the houses around them are some of the most sought after family homes on this side of town.

A little history

The land was part of the Braamfontein farm bought by the Geldenhuys family in 1886, and the suburb was named in 1937 after Emmarentia Botha, wife of Louw Geldenhuys. The Johannesburg Botanical Garden was established in 1964 on land from the former farm.

The houses

Larger family homes on generous stands, from 1930s and 1940s houses with gables and stoeps to modern rebuilds. Houses near the dam and garden attract the strongest interest.
