linden

Big stands, wide avenues and room for a cottage at the back.

Linden is about space. The stands are larger than in most older suburbs nearby, so you find houses with long gardens, a second dwelling, or room to add one.

A little history

Linden was established in 1901 on part of the Klipfontein farm, land that was used to grow fruit before it was surveyed. It became part of the City of Johannesburg in 1937. Its streets and avenues form a regular grid of similar sized blocks.

The houses

Mid century and older family homes on large stands, many with a cottage, flatlet or outbuildings. Original houses with stoeps and steel windows are common, as are later extensions.

the streets to know.

4th Avenue

Linden's main street, with coffee shops, small restaurants, studios and services.

3rd Avenue

More shops, churches and schools along a quieter strip.

The neighbours

Northcliff, Blairgowrie, Victory Park, Greenside and Cresta border the suburb, so the shopping and schools around it are close.
